Another fun and successful Lock In! Thanks to all who came. : )

New Members and Induction

New applications were due Friday, May 1st for those members interested in being part of the National Junior Honor Society for the 09/10 school year. We will be sending out notification of who has been accepted by Wednesday, May 6th.

Induction Ceremony is Monday, May 11th at 6:00pm in the Media Center. : )

We will have an end of the year party/lock in on Sat., May 16th for new members and existing members. Look for more information to come.

Earth Week

The NJHS had a great time supporting events last week for Earth Week. : )

We had a recycle day at lunch where several kids helped the students eating lunch recycle the items from their lunch that could be recycled. We also gave some wonderful tips on our morning announcements and on our daily Powerpoint educating the kids on campus about "going green" ideas. Friday we gave all the teachers and office staff Target re-usable bags to use when shopping.

Friday, we had several wonderful people bring canned food to the bbq. Mrs. Jennifer Scott was the winner of our Going Green basket! Thanks to all who donated canned food items.

NJHS is sponsoring many events for Earth Week. We will have spirit days:

Monday: Tree Day (dress like a tree, brown on bottom-green on top)
Tuesday: Recycle Day (wear recycled clothes from a family member's closet)
Wednesday: Hippie Day (dress like a hippie)
Thursday: Super Hero Day (dress like your favorite hero to SAVE THE EARTH)
Friday: Green Day (wear as much green as you can)

Tuesday is REDUCE CAR FUMES DAY! NJHS members will be in the front parking lot encouraging people to TURN OFF THEIR VEHICLES while they wait. They will have posters and fliers.

Wednesday (Earth Day)- NJHS members will be at lunches helping kids recycle products from their lunch.

Thursday we will be having a BLACK OUT HOUR-where we will ask classes to turn off as much power as they can for one hour! : )

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, April 14th at 8:00am in Ms. Janaulis's room. Please be sure to bring any newsletter, writing contests, and other information you are working on. Social Committee, please bring snacks! : )

Next meeting March 10th from 7:45-8:30am in Ms. Janaulis's room! See you there.

Today we took about 30 7th graders to Westside Food Bank. We really enjoyed being able to volunteer and help out community members. : ) We bagged rice and beans.

Next meeting, February 3rd from 3:30-4:30 in the Media Center!

Next NJHS Meeting

Our next big project in NJHS will be to help make Stetson Hills a GREENER campus! Look for our new recycling bins, which were purchased with a grant we received from APS/The Phoenix Suns! : )

We will also be doing a "Reduce Car Fumes Day" sometime in January to help parents reduce fumes while waiting to pick up their children from school.

Coming soon, we will begin selling Stetson Hills drawstring bags for only $5.00. The bags will be customized with Stetson's new logo and will be in school colors. They make GREAT reusable lunch bags and shopping bags! Look for more information soon to come!
